ListServ and Facebook
Additional benefits for members
The PSWA Listserv is one of the most popular and active features of PSWA Membership. Members use it to clarify information about proper law enforcement procedures, taking into account the wide variation across geographic jurisdictions. They seek advice about troubling plot points. And they sometimes ask for feedback on a portion of their manuscripts. Other members volunteer their information and expertise. Also members discuss publishing and promotion strategies in our genres. How do members get on the listserv?
PSWA has two Facebook pages: one exclusively for members, which in some ways duplicates the listserv, but makes it easier to include graphic elements. The URL for the members-only Facebook page is: https://www.facebook.com/groups/policewriter
The other Facebook page is for the public, which we hope will help to educate people about the organization and what it does. The goal for this page is to help attract new members and to give members another outlet for publicizing their work. The URL for the public Facebook page is: https://www.facebook.com/PublicSafetyWriters.
If you have information you’d like to post on Facebook, think about which one or more of these outlets is the most appropriate. For example, a new book announcement might be well suited for the member listserv and the public Facebook page. A request for help with a plot point is probably best handled on the listserv. And if you have photos of you and your spouse on vacation, your friends on the member Facebook page would be glad to see them!
